Dr Jennifer Alden co-founded the Bendigo branch of the Greens in 1995, has been branch convenor, election committee member, the inaugural policy coordinating committee and convenor of the health policy working group, State councillor and regional representative. She has also been involved with the Green Women’s Network gatherings, the Australian Global Greens conference and Green schools as participant and presenter.
She has
been a candidate for Bendigo local government elections and was lead candidate
in 2006 for the Upper House seat of Northern Victoria where the demonstrable
opportunities for Greens growth in rural and regional Victoria resulted in her
co-founding the Country Greens Network.
Jennifer is a Health Broker and Public Health Consultant with three decades experience working to
improve health and wellbeing in the community. She has a Doctorate of Public
Health with a special interest in food policy, a Masters in Women’s Health and
an Honours degree in Science, is an Honorary Research Fellow at the Melbourne
Sustainable Society Institute/School of Land and Environment at the University
of Melbourne and board member of Bendigo FoodShare and the Victorian Farmers’
Markets Association.
A member of the Public Health Association of Australia, the Australian Food Sovereignty Alliance and the Australian Food Hubs Network, she is also author of the book Liberated Eating. A former CEO of Women’s Health Loddon Mallee and senior policy advisor at VicHealth, her most recent role was as CEO of urban agriculture not for profit, Cultivating Community. She has a keen interest in growing and preparing food that is not only kind to the planet but our bodies as well.
